Hungary- Land of Dental Tourism
There's A Reason Why Dental Tourism Is All The Rage

Looking for a deal on vacations--and root canals? Make the choice thousands of Europeans are making and go to Hungary. Dentists in Hungary can perform the same procedures as their more Western counterparts for significantly less than the procedures would cost at home.

As a modern European nation, Hungary offers modern dental care from dentists who have undergone 6 years of rigorous, comprehensive training to receive their basic degree. More advanced training is required for specialization. Hungary also requires dentists to take continuing education classes each year and to belong to at least one international dental organization.

The ancestral seat of the Ottoman Empire, Hungary offers opportunities for relaxation and to view amazing culture in cities popular among tooth tourists.

Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, is an important city in the Central European region. It was the second capital city of Austria-Hungary and has been the starting point of many revolutions throughout Hungary’s history. Modern Budapest has kept the Turkish bath tradition from Turkish rule, and you can find many swim and spa baths during your stay in Budapest. You should also visit Buda Castle, a picturesque structure whose oldest part dates from the 14th century.

Mosonmagyarovar is a small town close to Austria and Slovakia where you can find an inordinate number of dentists. Dental tourism seems to be the main industry here. The benefit to the dental tourist is that tourism agencies feature itineraries to help you easily explore the area around Mosonmagyarovar.

If your dental appointment takes you to Gyori, be sure to check out the world-renowned Gyor Ballet. Located halfway between Budapest and Vienna in the northwest portion of Hungary near the Austrian and Czech Republic borders, Gyor also offers the chance to see a town founded by the Celts, taken over by the Romans, made part of the Frankish empire, renamed by the Magyars, occupied by the Mongols, liberated by the Czech, and burned to the ground by the Ottoman Empire to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Turks, for starters. Gyor has since been rebuilt; in 1989 it won the European award for protection of its monuments.

You can make your own dental appointment and travel arrangements, but there are agencies that will make those arrangements for you at no cost to you.

UK citizens a little uneasy about trusting a dentist they’ve never met to perform major mouth surgery may have a unique opportunity to meet Hungarian dentists before leaving home. On a tour that Hungarian Dental Travel launched in September 2008, Hungarian-trained dentists qualified with the British Dental Council gave initial consultations to UK patients who visited the tour’s mobile surgery. Patients were then invited to book dental tourism tours to Hungary, where they would receive treatment. The dentists plan to make periodic return visits to the UK.
